Being you makes selling easy!

People are incredibly good at sensing whether someone is genuine or not, and since it’s your job to build trust, in order to make sales, it’s an important area to think about.
It’s easy enough to say be genuine, but how many people really are? We’re taught how to behave, talk and be, and because of this, it’s inevitable that small parts of ourselves get a bit lost. For some it’s to a greater extent than others.
Uncovering yourself is an amazing thing, which will at the very least bring you lots of peace and happiness. But being genuine also makes you trustworthy and magnetic, which will help you no end when dealing with people in any capacity. Cue more sales, great results and better connections.
So how do we become our most genuine selves?
- Examine your beliefs – understand what’s driving you and why, and you’ll start to get insights.
- Question the beliefs – is this really true, or is this something I was taught. A good example may be around money or hard work. Money is energy and flows if we do, hard work is generally more necessary when we are not really enjoying what we are doing. If we love what we do and are in the moment, we’re not having to work so hard! Some beliefs may be hidden in your subconscious; meditation and mindfulness can help you uncover more of these.
- Each day add one thing to your life, your clothes, your self-talk that is more “you” and strip one thing away that isn’t you.
- Remind yourself that authenticity is your best option, being yourself is best because you’re special and unique and aren’t meant to be like anyone else! You are an original and already perfect.
- There is no “one” way to be that’s right, and other ways that are wrong. Wear what you want to wear, eat what you want to eat, and speak from your heart. Don’t say what you think the customer wants to hear, genuinely talk about what matters and then listen, as this will encourage them to do the same.
- Observe yourself, listen to what you say, and how it feels. Generally, when you speak about something that really resonates with you, it feels good. The opposite is true for things you’re perhaps repeating that aren’t really “you”.
- We’re sometimes taught in sales that “personality sells” – be big, loud and jovial. Not necessarily so, some of the best salespeople can be introverts, because they’re super-observant and great listeners. It doesn’t matter what type of person you are, you can sell and be super successful in whatever you choose to do.
Remember the saying, comparison is the thief of joy. Never compare yourself to anyone else. We compare our insides to other people’s outsides without really knowing what may be going on for them. Just learn to truly be who you really are, be genuine, and uncover another sales person’s super-power!
