When you’re afraid of hearing no

When you’re afraid of hearing no, it can stop you from reaching out to people whether that’s in person or on the telephone. It can be quite a subtle fear, hidden and difficult to spot. But if you or your telesales team procrastinate when calling, or do other things instead of picking up the phone, it may be that there’s a bit of fear there. None of us like rejection, but if we understand that there’s more value to a sales call than an immediate yes, it makes the job a lot easier.
Sales calls are valuable when you can diarise another time to call, obtain the correct information for next time, begin to build a relationship and rapport, find out when will be the right time for them for your type of product or service (is there a renewal date or a contract end date?), obtain contact information and permission to email.
Remember, a no now, isn’t necessarily a no forever. If you’ve researched your target, and have something really strong to offer, there may be a right time later on.
All calls have some value, even if that is honing your message, and tweaking it until you’ve got it just right.
It’s an old cliche that every no gets you closer to yes, but it’s oh so true. If you’re not making enough calls in the first place, how will you ever get to yes!
